Terms and Conditions
These terms and conditions are intended to provide a clear understanding of the expectations placed upon both the client and the editor during our time working together. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Please note: the payment of your deposit is acknowledged as acceptance that you have read and understood the following terms and conditions, and that you agree to be bound by them for the duration of this contract.
These Terms and Conditions are a legal agreement between Wendy Lawrance, trading as WSL Author Services (‘I’, ‘We’, ‘Me’, or ‘My’), and you (the Client).
The Client is under no obligation to offer Me work; neither is Wendy Lawrance under any obligation to accept work offered by the Client.
Wendy Lawrance will provide service(s) as mutually agreed, and confirmed in writing.
The work will be carried out at such times and places as determined by Wendy Lawrance.
The Client agrees that, unless agreed in advance, in writing, they will not be entitled to view the document(s) until such time as the completion date has been reached.
All work will be completed by Wendy Lawrance.
Wendy Lawrance confirms that she is self-employed, is responsible for her own income tax and National Insurance, and that she is not VAT registered.
The Client will reimburse Wendy Lawrance for reasonable expenses over and above usual expenses incurred in the process of editorial work. These must be agreed in advance.
The Client will pay Wendy Lawrance a fee, agreed in advance, including a non-refundable deposit, payable in advance, where necessary.
The completed work will be delivered by Wendy Lawrance to the Client, on or before the date agreed, for the agreed fee, which will be based on the description of the work required and agreed in advance.
If, upon receipt of the item to be worked on, it becomes clear that significantly more work is required than has been discussed and agreed in advance, Wendy Lawrance may renegotiate the fee, and/or the delivery date.
If the client requires additional work, supplemental to that agreed in advance, Wendy Lawrance reserves the right to renegotiate the fee and/or the delivery date.
In the case of unforeseen circumstances such as illness, injury, or any other unforeseen personal issues, Wendy Lawrance or the Client may re-negotiate the start date, and/or delivery date. This will be done as soon possible after such circumstances arise.
Any content created by Wendy Lawrance as part of the copyediting process will become the copyright of the Client once final payment has been made.
Client confidentiality will be maintained at all times.
Wendy Lawrance agrees that, upon return of the work, the Client should be satisfied with the quality of work received, that it will be carried out to the best of her abilities, to a very high standard within reasonable terms of the description of the work agreed in advance.
If her work is unsatisfactory, Wendy Lawrance will rectify it in her own time and at her own expense, such amendments not to be unreasonable, or fall outside of the original work agreed in advance.
The Client agrees that some errors may still be present in the returned work, though these errors should not significantly impact the readability of the work.
Wendy Lawrance accepts no liability for any loss or damages incurred by the client as a result of any errors which may still be present in the returned work.
Unless agreed otherwise at the outset, payment of the final invoice will be made prior to the return of the final corrected manuscript.
The Client agrees that any booking deposit paid for the work is non-refundable.
The Client agrees that payment of a non-refundable booking deposit will be accepted as their agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions for the duration of this contract.
The Client agrees to pay 50% of the full agreed fee for the work in the event that they fail to deliver the manuscript/documents/any other materials necessary for Wendy Lawrance to start the work on the agreed start date without informing her they need an extension, in writing, within seven working days prior to the agreed start date.
The Client agrees to pay 50% of the full agreed fee for the work if they decide to cancel up to 30 days prior to the commencement date.
The Client agrees to pay 100% of the full agreed fee for the work if they decide to cancel after the work has begun.
Wendy Lawrance reserves the right to cancel or refuse the work after the deposit has been paid, and even after work has begun, if such matters as plagiarism, extremist views, hate speech, harassment, unlawful conduct, misappropriation, impersonation, threats directed at named individuals or groups, offensive, harmful, inaccurate or otherwise inappropriate content, or any other matters of reasonable concern that she does not feel comfortable working on, arise within the work, or become evident in association with the Client. In such an event, the client agrees to pay 100% of the fee.
Wendy Lawrance reserves the right to request that her name is not included in association with the work.
The Client agrees that Wendy Lawrance (WSL Author Services) may use the Client’s name in any promotional material used, unless otherwise agreed in advance.
This agreement is subject to the laws of England and Wales and both Wendy Lawrance and the Client agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts.
